This afternoon’s change, which was more of a tweak, was a slight expansion of the WTA toward NYC and Philly. Hence, Philadelphia proper is in the WTA while in NYC, the western portion of the city and suburbs are included while the eastern areas are not. As for the level of risk, we continue to NOT recommend taking preparatory action at this time; this remains a Watch.
In the details, the same storm that will impact the Central U.S. today/tomorrow will impact the Northeast tomorrow and early Thursday. The impact will be an initial burst of snow and ice in the WTA zone before the precipitation turns to all rain. The highest snow totals will be in central/western Pennsylvania where some 6 inch accumulations are expected. The precip will also be accompanied by strong winds.
