Gaia Enterprises Inc. had its start as a manufacturer of specialty chemicals that were sold to industries that were under intense scrutiny from their equipment manufactures, environmental groups and governmental regulators. These industries included power generation companies, major construction companies, railroads and municipal governments. We manufactured and sold chemical products that would help these entities comply with environmental regulations and equipment manufacturer's specifications or else void there warrantees. These chemicals included solvents, degreasers and corrosion inhibitors.
The fact is that these ice melting products were first designed to solve the many problems arising out of the need to control ice and snow at nuclear construction sites. At these sites it was critical that any ice melting product meet many criteria. These included being harmless to concrete, asphalt, plastics, paints. It had to be non corrosive to metals. It had to be non toxic and safe for animals and humans. It must be environmentally safe for both land and water.
To meet all these requirements it took years of experimentation and field testing. Finally in 1986, a patent was granted on these safe ice melting products.
